Home Field for Democracy
Evonik
Germany is undergoing a political turning point: The governing coalition has collapsed, populist movements are gaining ground, and democracy faces perhaps its greatest test in decades. At this critical moment, Evonik chooses not to remain silent, but to take a clear stand. Under the motto “Voice for Democracy,” the company positions itself unequivocally: in support of democratic values, against indifference – and calls on all citizens to vote.

Evonik uses its BVB sponsorship for a campaign no one can miss: On the day before the federal election, the center circle of Signal Iduna Park becomes a symbolic ballot paper during the match against Union Berlin. A giant “X” on the sacred pitch – there's no more striking way to visualize a call to vote. The message is as simple as it is powerful: Democracy needs your voice. And it reaches millions.

Just before kickoff, something extraordinary happens:
A more than 20-meter-wide "X" is sprayed onto the pitch in front of over 81,000 stadium visitors and around one million viewers on TV and online. The center circle becomes the most powerful ballot paper in the country.
This spectacular on-field action is accompanied by an emotional campaign spot:
BVB stars like Mats Hummels, Donyell Malen, and Mateu Morey Bauza, head coach Edin Terzić, and Evonik employees deliver a multilingual appeal for democracy, diversity, and tolerance – for a united Europe.
The campaign extends far beyond the stadium:
Posters at company locations and internal dialogue forums – where apprentices engage with European politicians from various parties – actively promote democratic exchange.
The result: a goal for democracy. Live commentators amplify the message, and national media outlets from SPIEGEL to BILD report across the country. Evonik proves that companies can – and must – take a stand in critical times.
